I’m the first to admit that as a company Henlays has some strong views on certain subjects and we make no apology for it.
We like quality…a lot. We like to buy good quality products that last for ages and instead of disposing of them if they break, we fix them. Take a look at cheap imported wooden coops for example. They use resources and energy during their manufacture that cause waste and pollution. We ship them thousands of miles to be used for perhaps 2 years, before they fall apart, get destroyed by predators and end up on a bonfire when they get overrun by red mite. Then the cycle starts again. Another load of wood and labour, another trip half way around the world for the same thing to keep happening.
We are proud of our nation’s history in manufacturing and engineering. A century ago, Britain made things and we did it brilliantly. ‘Made in Britain’ was synonymous with well constructed, well designed items that would last a lifetime. Market forces changed and so did our throwaway culture. We’re the first to admit that production costs abroad are often cheaper than here, but we all pay a price for that. We will never move production of outside of Britain and here’s why.
When we first started Henlays, we had a small amount of money but a big amount of ideas. We took those ideas to other small, local businesses. They got excited about them, they believed in what we were trying to achieve and they worked into the evenings and weekends to get stuff done for us. They worked hard and have pride in what they do…just like we do. These aren’t people who have heaps of money and who believe profit is everything. They are people like us, people with families, people with mortgages, people scraping together the money to help their kids through University or pay for swimming lessons. These are people who pray nothing goes wrong with the car and whose idea of a holiday is quiet little weekend away.
Some of the people who make Henlays what it is today have been part of our lives for 15 years, others have become part of the team for only a few months. Each and everyone shares the same 5 things, EXPERTISE in their field, LOYALTY to the company, PERFECTIONISM, great COMMUNICATION and VISION. As a team we ‘Dared to Dream’ that we can manufacture and sell iconic animal housing that really is perfect for Pets, People and the Planet. So in answer to the original question, What does Henlays stand for? I suppose the answer would be we stand for BRITAIN and all that it entails.
